I want...

...nothing.

That's not exactly true, but this morning, as I woke up, I was just totally and completely at peace with the world. I have no idea why. It's a great feeling, actually, like you know that no matter what everything's going to be all right.

Maybe it's because my mom has finally decided to let me write for a living. It'll be hard, but now, when I sit down at the computer, she doesn't suddenly start talking while I'm in the middle of a sentence, and blank page doesn't look so intimidating any more.

So far, all I've gotten written is a vague synopsis for a fanfic and a 148 word beginning to a short story about procrastination, because I haven't quite got over that need to procrastinate. But I felt very accomplished yesterday after getting that done.

Anyway, I've decided to go ahead and continue writing that novel that I just couldn't do for NaNoWriMo. All I have are three scenes for three different characters (one of which I had intended for an entirely different story but decided against writing--the plot just wasn't...what I wanted to do), and I think that might be my problem. I've never really used an outline, or really planned out anything I've written, fiction wise. Even in my creative writing class in high school, the short story I wrote, I just wrote out and went back and edited it (it changed drastically, both plot wise and grammar wise, from my first draft, and when my partner read it, she said it was much better, and didn't sound so forced).

Now, I did write my junior and senior theses by using an outline and note cards. I pretty much had them written before I wrote them, if that makes any sense. So I figure if I do an analysis on my three characters (maybe just a persona sheet, with name, job, description, personality and history, something that'll give me an idea on what they're like), then I'll kind of know where they want to go and make an outline on them.

I've bought some special floppy discs (special in that they have their own cases and I can hide them from my sister and nephew who think they can use whatever's sitting out), and some legal pads with money my grandmother lent me for the purpose. If I can just remember to always carry one of those pads with me, I can write down scenes that pop into my head.

That's one of my biggest problems, you see, I have all these great ideas, and even come up with wonderful wording for some scenes, but then, when I go to write it down later, I forget it, or can't write it the way it was in my head. But if I get in the practice of just writing it down, and checking a thesaurus later for better wording, it'll become habit and I'll do it automatically. Mostly.

And maybe it'll stop this dang procrastinatory streak that I've had since my senior year in high school.

Also, would anyone be interested in taking a look at my analyses (when I get them done, which will be some time today. I will get them done. I will) and maybe pointing out things that just don't seem to fit? And giving me a couple of challenges to write a fic about each of them?

I figure if I write some little one-shots, maybe dealing with their history or something, I'll be able to get into their heads easier.

But for now, I'm watching a MacGyver ep I haven't actually seen before. And it's raining outside. Since it's below freezing, it's highly likely it's going to turn to ice. That sucks.

Good thing my grandma took us shopping yesterday.

M.A.

ETA: Also, if there's anyone who can be a slave driv...er a person who'll keep after me to actually write, I'd appreciate it :).

ETA another ETA:And how do you get those little hearts? And do the strike through thing? I could probably look in my html book for the strike through, because I think it's that kind of tag, but I'm not sure.
